Prototyping - Final Sprint

Hey there,

This week we focused on finding the fun in our game! That sounds a bit weird…. Let me explain.

We continued working on our prototype from last week making it more playable with the core features standing. And we started playtesting. A bit of playing here and there and we realized that our game is noooot quite as fun as we expected. The most fun was flinging objects through the level but that’s about it.

So, we went back to the drawing board and started thinking on how to make the game more fun. The idea: Make the Farmer playable and make it a 3 vs 1 game! A bit more brainstorming and we started building a new prototype. Fast forward to today and we present Murderous Mutton Prototype 2! With a lot of new elements like:

Play the Farmer:

Now the first player to join the game can play as the Farmer. Try to stop the sheep from killing your precious tourists by putting them far, far away.

Get grounded:

The Farmer can now put the sheep into their pen and keep them there. The only way to get out is for another sheep to open the gate!

Hiding from responsibilities:

As a sheep you can now hide from the Farmer in tall grass to be save from him. Be clever and outmanoeuvre the Farmer!

Fight back:

In case the Farmer catches one of your friends you can now bump headfirst into the farmer. It might not kill him but save your friend! Be careful though. Bumping into the Farmer makes him angry and an angry Farmer is a fast Farmer!

Dispose of the… totally healthy tourists:

After a sheep took care of these annoying tourists, they can now get rid of their bodies to gain points!

“Intelligent” Tourists:

Well maybe intelligent is a bit of a string word but now Tourists will regularly appear and start walking around on the map. Although they still tend to be a bit self-destructive at times…

Lets talk about art..  We did finish our Artbible / Styleguide, however you want to call it. We also brainstormed about what assets there are that are usual for a farm environment and already started modeling a few of them:

This would be the sheep pen, the starting position for the sheeps and also the returning point if the farmer catches one of the sheeps. Even though it is such an important building for the game you wouldn't want to look at it for too long when playing a sheep, especially not from the inside.

This is what it would look like from a gameplay angle while being relatively close together so the camera is not that far zoomed out.
There are a few more objects that we made to present our game a little bit. Here's a little collection of some stuff

We uploaded 2 versions of the game this week (one with controlling the farmer and one without). Feel free to test both and tell us what you guys prefer!

Well that’s what’s new this week. Next week we are going into proper production! Yay! So, stay tuned for that and have a great week.
