Into Production
Hey, how’s it going?
Time for Devlog 3. And from this week on we have some major changes going on! This week we started our first week of production. First week of production? Didn’t we work on Murderous Mutton the last weeks already? Yes! But while the last 2 weeks were mainly some testing out and brainstorming, this and the next 5 weeks we will directly be working towards the game.
Main downside? We have to start all over (at least the programming) …
So! What did we do this week? Well we programmers mainly worked on 3 basic things of the game.
The Controls, joining the game and the menu. Let’s go through it one by one.
This week we made a very basic menu since closing and restarting the game with alt+f4 started to get rather tiresome. So now you start in a proper main menu, can start and Quit the game (No idea why we need the last one). The options button is completely decorative for now.
You can also pause the game now by pressing Escape.
One thing that will seem weird this week is that you can’t see your player in the game if you press on your controller. That’s because we added a very basic lobby. You will need 2 controllers and press X/A (PlayStation/Xbox controller) on the controller to start the game.
We overhauled the controls of the characters a bit to make them feel better when playing. The basic controller layout didn’t change though. Right now, you can only walk around, but from next week on there will be a lot more to do.
That was a lot of programmer talk. Let's talk about art!
We've entered the production-phase and after planning out all assets/tasks that needed to be done during this sprint, we slowly started creating some stuff.
The main-characters (the sheep and farmer) are slowly coming together.
These models will be further enhanced this week.
The way we make vegetation will very much define the style of our game.
Our artists made some trees to demonstrate how we tackle this.
Furthermore, we modeled an awesome tractor that you will be able to interact with. and some extra assets we already made during the prototype-phase.
Alright! Thats so far all for this week. The next weeks a lot more will be added to the game, so look forward to that!
